CHENNAI : The British Council has enrolled over 90 new members through its stall at the book fair at St. George's School in Kilpauk so far. Several have expressed interest in the library's impressive collection of DVDs. "We get, at least, 300 new memberships at the fair each year," said Sujatha Rammohan, Manager, Library Reference Services, British Council, South India. The stall aims to show what is available at the library and promote the culture, arts, science and educational institutions of the United Kingdom. Books on personal and skill development are in demand at the library, though interest is expressed in a wide variety of categories. There is also an interest in information technology titles. Besides these, she said general titles such as herbal medicine and aromatherapy were also requested. Members of the library also make generous use of the DVD collection, which is now more than 2000 strong. Multimedia content for children is another popular section. Parents visiting the fair inquired after how membership could be useful for children, she said. They were interested to hear that workshops that encouraged reading habit among children were among the events held at the council.
