Provide lifts at public places
Sir, This is regarding a writ petition filed for provision of lifts and escalators in railway stations. Not only railway stations but also all public offices in India neglect disabled people and senior citizens. In Western countries, ramps and escalators are provided at all public places. No non-governmental organisation here has come forward to take up this genuine cause. Recently, so many steel overbridges were constructed in Bangalore by the BMP. They are hardly being used as they are not user friendly. The authorities concerned should wake up at least now.

Decision on drama centre welcomed
Sir, We welcome the first positive signals sent out by the Union Government on setting up a National School of Drama centre in Karnataka. However, it should not be located in Bangalore, but in a place in central Karnataka such as Davangere. Further, rather than funding one big national repertory in our State, the money and capabilities meant for it must be invested in 10 small and dynamic companies practising modern and professional theatre in different parts of the State. Trained and full-time theatre professionals in the State must be consulted and involved in the project.

Chaotic traffic at Rustam Bagh
Sir, The condition of Rustam Bagh Main Road and the crossroads in Rustam Bagh Layout is pathetic owing to years of neglect by the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP). With apartment complexes coming up rapidly in the area, what was once a serene place has now become too noisy and polluted thanks to the growth of traffic. Rustam Bagh Main Road is narrow and unable to cope with the increase in traffic. Added to this, vehicles are parked on the roads haphazardly. Pedestrians are always at the risk of being knocked down by vehicles. Will the BMP and the traffic police authorities do something concrete to address these problems at the earliest?

E-waste bins sought
Sir The time has come for the BMP to provide waste bins at prominent locations in the city, so that e-waste such as dry cells, printer cartridges, printer tapes and cassette tapes can be deposited. Since these at present get mixed up with the general garbage, the landfills could get contaminated in the long run, polluting soil and groundwater. The earlier the BMP installs separate bins for e-waste the better. Citizens should be educated on the need to use these bins to protect our environment.
