News Analysis
In a report "Panel against curb on drug patenting" ("Business" page, January 13, 2007), the second paragraph should have read as: "In its recommendation submitted last month, the committee has said that neither the requirement of compliance with the TRIPS (trade related aspects of intellectual property rights) agreement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) nor the `national interest perspective' would warrant imposing any such restriction in India's Patents Act 1970 an issue that had been raised in Parliament, following which the committee was set up. The paragraph published was: "In its recommendation submitted last month, the committee has said that not only the requirement of compliance with the TRIPS (trade related aspects of intellectual property rights) agreement of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) but also `national interest perspective' would warrant imposing any such restriction in India's Patents Act 1970 an issue that had been raised in Parliament, following which the committee was set up." The strapline as well as text of a report "Show-cause to channels on Mahatma video" (January 14, 2007) said: "They have time till 12 p.m. on Monday to reply". It should have been 12 noon, as clarified by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The usage is 12 noon or 12 midnight, without p.m. or a.m. The caption of a standalone picture "Praying for peace" (Delhi, January 13, 2007, page 5) was: "And for martyrs: Army soldiers during the 91st Raising Day celebrations of 15 Corps at its headquarters in Srinagar on Friday. The Corps was raised on January 12, 1916 during World War II at Port Said in Egypt." It should have been World War I. A report "Anand's best chance to become No. 1" ("Sport", January 13, 2007), on this year's Corus chess tournament, stated that both Vladimir Kramnik and Veselin Topalov are world champions. It was an error. Kramnik is the world champion. It is the policy of The Hindu to correct significant errors as soon as possible. Please specify the edition (place of publication), date and page.
