WASHINGTON: U.S. President George W. Bush's Iraq plan failed to rally public support, according a latest survey released here on Tuesday. In the USA TODAY/Gallup Poll, more than 60 per cent of the respondents backed the idea of a non-binding congressional resolution expressing opposition to Mr. Bush's plan to commit an additional 21,500 U.S. troops to Iraq. Sixty per cent have little or no confidence that the Iraqi government will be able to take responsibility for handling security there by November as Mr. Bush suggested. By more than 2-1, those surveyed opposed the plan to send an additional $1 dollars in economic aid for Iraq. Xinhua
