Emergency still in force

WELLINGTON: The state of emergency imposed on December 6, 2006 is still in force in Fiji, Fijian official said on Tuesday. Fiji's interim administration stressed that the decree remains in force, according to Radio New Zealand International. It quoted Fiji's Interim Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum as saying that Fiji is still on high alert as far as national security is concerned. The military and police said that a number of weapons are still unaccounted for since the 2000 coup, and that there are groups which are planning to destabilise the nation, according to Mr. Khaiyum. — Xinhua
