Ahamed seeks land for Branch Secretariat office

CHENNAI:
A Branch Secretariat office of the Ministry of External Affairs will soon be set up in Chennai.
According to official sources, Union Minister of State for External Affairs E. Ahamed met Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi on Monday and requested him to allocate space for setting up the Branch Secretariat. Mr. Karunanidhi promised all cooperation.
The Branch Secretariat will liaison with all Embassies in a State. A full-fledged Branch Secretariat is functioning in Kolkata. Sometime ago, a Branch Secretariat was started in Hyderabad. Mr. Ahamed also reviewed the functioning of Passport Offices in the Southern Region Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala. Recently, the Ministry had simplified the procedures for tatkal category of passports. Officials were now receiving more applications in this category.
Regional Passport Offices
Mr. Ahmed also discussed with the Chief Minister the setting up of Regional Passport Offices in Tiruchi and Coimbatore. He requested the State Government to allocate land.
