Nellore to turn into an apparel hub

Chief Minister lays stone for the largest park in South Asia


  • MAS Holdings signs MoU with Government
  • Group has partnerships with world brands

    CHINTAVARAM (NELLORE): Nellore will soon become an `Intimate and Sportswear' apparel hub in South Asia as Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy laid a foundation stone here on Tuesday to the textile and apparel park, which will be set up by Sri Lanka-based MAS Holdings, one of the largest textile and apparel groups of South Asia. It may be recalled that the MAS Holdings had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Andhra Pradesh Government to set up a textile and apparel park Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Nellore. MAS Holdings is a US $ 700 million multinational, operating in five countries- Sri Lanka, India, China, Indonesia and Mexico with more than thirty factories already employing 35,000 direct employees.

    Joint ventures

    The group has financial and strategic partnerships with the world's best brands like Victoria Secrets, Triumph, GAP, Adidas, Nike, Speedo, and Marks & Spencer to name a few.

    Direct employment

    Speaking after the foundation-laying ceremony, MAS Group Chairman Mahesh Amalean as well as the Chief Minister claimed that the park would provide direct employment to 30,000 people and indirect employment to 45,000 people.

    And the expected export revenue would be around US $ 500 millions over a period of five years.

    Mahesh said that they would also strive for the overall development of the area.
