KOLKATA: Romanian Andrei Savulescu got the better of sixth-seeded Ronak Manuja 6-1, 6-3 in the boys' singles main draw of the ONGC-ITF juniors (grade III) at the DKS Sports Complex here on Tuesday. The top four seeds in the boys' section did not have to sweat much in winning their first round encounters.
Keen contest
Qualifier Christopher Marquis won the most contested match of the opening round. The Mumbai lad impressed with his grit and temperament as he overturned the hopes of Romanian Cosim Andreescu, who was raked 467 places higher. Yuki Bhambri, who received a wild card, had to struggle against compatriot Abhijit Tiwari but finally managed a next round berth. There were no ruffles in the girls' singles first round as all the seeded players including eight seeded Sweta Solanki of India moved into the pre-quarterfinals.
