Sattur: Dindigul lifted the S.A. Naidu memorial shield, dethroning Chennai 4-3 via penalty shoot-out in the final of the 48th State senior inter-district football championship at Sattur on Monday. At regulation time, the teams were locked goalless. In the penalty shoot-out, Babu, Gautham, Charles and Rajesh Raja scored for Dindigul. Baskaran, Rajmohan and Jeyaseelan were on target for Chennai. Mr. K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran, Minister for Health, gave away the prizes.
Mixed bag for Chennai
Chennai had mixed fortunes in the senior inter-district volleyball championship at the VOC Stadium, Palayamkottai, on Monday. Chennai won the men's title, defeating Salem 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-9, 16-14, while it lost to Kanchipuram 21-25, 15-21, 13-25 in the women's final. The results Men Final: Chennai bt Salem 21-25, 25-17, 23-25, 25-9, 16-14. Third place: Coimbatore bt Madurai 25-21, 19-25, 25-23. Semifinals: Chennai bt Madurai 27-29, 25-14, 25-16, 25-22; Salem bt Coimbatore 22-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 17-15. Women (Final): Kanchipuram bt Chennai 25-21, 25-15, 25-13. Four in lead
