Jathra begins on a grand note

MYSORE: The annual Adi Jagadguru Sri Shivarathreeshwara Shivayogi Jathra festival began at Suttur village in Nanjangud taluk on Tuesday on a grand note.

The Sri Suttur Veerasimhasana Math situated on the banks of the Kapila was founded by Shivarathreeshwara Mahaswamiji.

The festival has attracted devotees from various parts of the State, particularly from the Mysore region. They are participating enthusiastically in various programmes organised during the jathra such as, rathotsava, theppotsava, special pujas, mass marriage, religious meet, bhajan mela, exhibition, wrestling competition, cattle show, drawing competition, sports meet, cultural festival, performance of folk artistes from various States.

The jathra commenced with the Maharudrabhisheka and Laksha Bilvarchane in the early hours of Tuesday. A march for peace and harmony was held at 6.30 a.m. and Sri Chidananda Swamiji of Sri Hosmath hoisted the Shatsthala flag at 8 a.m.

In the presence of Sri Mummudi Nirvana Swamiji of Degula Math, Kanakapura, Minister for Tourism inaugurated a quiz as a part of "Agricultural Mela" inaugurated on the occasion. Minister for Rural Water Supply and Sugar S.A. Raveendranath presided over the function.
