ANANTAPUR: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Tuesday laid foundation stone for extension of drinking water pipelines in Rahamatnagar here, taken up with an estimated cost of Rs. 60 lakhs under the Andhra Pradesh Urban Service Programme. People of the area have been facing drinking water problem for long as the slum is at the tail-end of a pipeline. The laying of new pipelines from an overhead service reservoir is expected to solve their problem but also in surrounding slum areas. Mayor R. Parasuram, Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy and others also participated in the programme. Earlier, the Chief Minister landed in the town 40 minutes behind scheduled.
Sheep breed project
After unveiling a statue of former Member of Parliament late A. Venkata Reddy, Dr. Reddy visited Asad Farms near Bandamundapalli in Anantapur rural mandal and examined an Australian sheep breed (Darper) project. He visited the embryo transfer laboratory and enquired about the success and growth of the first generation sheep of the breed being raised there. Managing Director of the farm G.S. Mansur, Ministers and others accompanied the Chief Minister.
