ADILABAD: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager D.N. Mathur on Tuesday said 24 railway overbridges (ROBs) were being completed this year by the Railways in Andhra Pradesh. This is the highest number of ROBs to be constructed in any of the Railway zones in the country, he said. The General Manager came to Adilabad while on a visit to inspect the newly converted broad guage track between Kinwat and Mudkhed in Maharashtra. Responding to Adilabad legislator C. Ramchander Reddy's demand for a ROB at Adilabad, he said he would immediately clear any such proposal provided the State Government agrees to bear the entire cost as per the Railway guidelines in this regard. However, considering the strong plea made by the legislator for the ROB the SCR would write to the State Government on the issue, he said. With regard to opening of the new broad guage track by Union Railway Minister Lalu Yadav at Kinwat railway station, tentatively on January 31, Mr. Mathur said permission of the Maharashtra State Election Commission (SEC) was awaited in this regard. In view of the Zilla Parishad elections in Maharashtra and the election code of conduct being in force, the permission of the SEC was needed, he said. Mr. Reddy also urged the General Manager to introduce coaches between Nagpur and Hyderabad via Adilabad. The Lok Satta also represented him to extend the Nanded-Daund passenger upto Adilabad.
