KURNOOL: A housewife identified as Alivelamma committed suicide by hanging herself from a fan in her house at Ramalingeswara Nagar here on Tuesday. Domestic trouble was said to be the cause. — Special Correspondent

Gambling den raided, 12 arrested

TIRUPATI: In a raid on a posh private resorts located in the downtown Mangalam area here on Tuesday, the police arrested over a 12 people and confiscating Rs. 1 lakh and a number of cell phones. Award for Rollball coach

TIRUPATI: Rollball Federation of India has selected State coach G. Premnath for the `Best Coach' award from among the 49 coaches in the country. Mr. Premnath, secretary of Chittoor District Rollball Association, is receiving the national award for the second time.

Two NSS volunteers killed in accident

Sangareddy: Two Intermediate students returning from a NSS camp from Timmapur of Dubbaka mandal died when the tractor they were travelling was hit by a speeding truck from behind on the outskirts of Siddipet on Tuesday.

The students belonging to Masterminds Junior College, Siddipet, were returning from the ten-day camp when the accident took place on the Siddipet-Ramayampet road.

Two children killed

MAHABUBNAGAR: Two youngsters were killed while five suffered injuries when the tractor trolley in which they were travelling over turned at Suddakal village in Kalwakurthy mandal on Monday. Parashu Ramulu, 11, died on the spot while Bhagyamma, 13, succumbed to injuries on the way to hospital.

Screening of award-winning films

MPTC member dies at YSR's meeting

ANANTAPUR: A Congress MPTC member from Mahantapuram village of Kundurpi mandal of the district, Dasanna (45), died of heart attack while he was attending the Chief Minister's programme here on Tuesday. He was rushed to the General Hospital and was declared brought-dead. - Staff Reporter

Express stranded

KURNOOL: Mumbai-bound express train from Chennai (6010) was stranded at Adoni station for three hours due to a technical snag in the engine on Tuesday. The train was then hauled by the engine of a goods train. Two other trains were delayed due to the breakdown. - Special Correspondent

Train derails

KADAPA: Two bogies of a goods train derailed at Nandalur railway station on Tuesday, disrupting movement of some trains on Kadapa-Chennai route.

Chennai-Mumbai bound Dadar Express was detained before Nandalur railway station and Mumbai-Chennai Super Express was stopped at Mangampet, owing to the derailment. The derailed bogies were later removed and traffic restored. - Staff Reporter

NIZAMABAD: Indian Academy of Paediatrics, Nizamabad chapter secretary N. Ramchander has said the office bearers of the district chapter received the best chapter award from the IAP national president Navin Thackery during the 44th national IAP conference held in Mumbai recently. - Staff Reporter

Shelter for rape victim

KURNOOL: A 17-year-old victim of gang rape has been given shelter by Swadhar Rescue Home. Officials of the Women and Child Welfare Department and the Police formally handed over the girl to the home authorities on Tuesday. She will be given food, shelter, medical help and vocational training. - Special Correspondent

Youth dies at theatre

NIZAMABAD: A 25-year-old youth, K. Suresh of Gajulpet, died of suffocation due to jostling in the queue for tickets of Telugu movie `Yogi' at Nataraj theatre on Monday. He was in an inebriated condition when the accident occurred. Movie distributors reportedly agreed to pay compensation to the bereaved family. - Staff Reporter
