Khammam gears up for `sambaralu'

Renuka Chowdhury to inaugurate the festival

KHAMMAM : The administration is gearing up for organising on a grand scale the Khammam festival- `Stambhadri Sambaralu' - scheduled for January 18 to 21.

The Union Minister of State for Woman and Child Development, Renuka Chowdhury will inaugurate the festival at Taruni Haat on Thursday. A rally will be organised with tribal dancers and cultural troupes from the Stambhadri temple to Taruni Haat on the occasion.

Besides encouraging local talent, a sound and light show would be organised on the culture and heritage of Khammam as part of the festival. Elaborate arrangements were made at the Taruni Haat for the occasion under the personal supervision of a team of senior officials. The DWCRA groups would put up their stalls in large number. Food festival was also being organised.

A skating dance by Lakshmi Manasa from Visakhapatnam was also planned for January 20.

A special programme by singers such as Chakri and Kousalya would be organized on January 21.
