MADIKERI: The newly formed Bane Hakku Samrakshana Samiti, has planned to urge the State Government to accord occupancy rights over the Jamma Bane and tree right issues in Kodagu. For this it will organise people in villages and impress upon the State Government to concede to their demands, its convenor Neravanda Umesh, said here on Tuesday. The samiti would also urge the Government to withdraw the circular banning felling on bane lands and the circular by the State Revenue Secretary, saying holders did not have any rights over bane lands. Durgaprasad, a member of the samiti, said efforts were being made by the Revenue Department to distort the order of the High Court with regard to Chekkera K. Poovaiah Vs. State of Karnataka case. Owing to this, cultivated Jamma Bane lands, which were brought under revenue assessment, should be entered in the RTC as paradeena (proprietary rights). The circular of the revenue department violated the court orders. The samiti would condemn any efforts by the revenue department to belittle the court orders, Dr. Durgaprasad, said. The samiti would urge the State Government to withdraw the circular issued on October 31 2006 that landholders did not have any rights over Jamma Bane lands and anomalies in RTC entries would be corrected as per the KLRA of 1964. The samiti would invite people of the district to join the movement, Mr. Subbaiah added.
