NEW DELHI : Janata Dal (United) has finalised the names of candidates for five constituencies in Punjab for the forthcoming State Assembly elections on February 13. Party president Sharad Yadav cleared the names on Tuesday.

The party also hopes to arrive at a seat-sharing arrangement with its National Democratic Alliance partners, the BJP and the Akali Dal, on five additional seats. JD (U) is seeking alliance on five segments in Patiala, Fatehpur Saheb and Bhatinda. Talks are still on. According to the JD (U) general secretary in charge of Punjab affairs, Javed Raza, the names of the candidates had been cleared for Ludhiana East, West, North and Rural and for Patiala. The party is going it alone in these constituencies.

The candidates were finalised at a meeting with the party's Punjab State president Inderjit Saini, Parliamentary Board chairman Amrinder Singh Gulati and secretary-general Vijay Kaushal at a meeting with Mr. Yadav.
