CHENNAI : Many residents in and around Nanganallur have complained of their mobile phones being snatched away by unidentified persons. According to the victims, many of them were women and in the recent case, a pregnant woman was not spared. The snatchers escaped by two-wheeler after committing the crime, they alleged. In Lakshmi Nagar, Nanganallur, the public said that at least, five incidents of snatching mobile phones were reported in the recent past. Based on the advice from the Pazhavanthangal police, two persons registered their complaints with the cyber crime cell in the Commissioner's office. After grill offences were reported from the area, Assistant Commissioner of Police C Rajamanickam visited the colonies and sought public cooperation. Accordingly, the public have joined the night patrolling team led by R Mohan. The public have volunteered to keep vigil during odd hours to check the menace of bureau pulling and grill offences. Lakshmi Nagar Civic Welfare Association secretary V Rama Rao has appealed to the police to step up vigil. He urged retired people to keep watch during evenings on their streets and intimate local police about the movement of suspicious persons.
