Staff Reporter

Vital clues `obtained' in case of body found in suitcase

CHENNAI : The Chennai police say they have gathered "some vital clues" into two robberies in which two men on a motorcycle stopped two car drivers last week and threatened them into parting with valuables.

The two incidents occurred within half an hour of each other -- one on G N Chetty Road in T Nagar and the other near Wheat Crofts Road in Nungambakkam.

A senior officer investigating the crime said here on Tuesday that following leads, the special teams had zeroed in on the robbers. "It is only a matter of time. We have established their identity and once we get the accused, we will be able to recover the properties as well as find out whether they had any major network", he said.

Another officer, who is part of the team, said that the robbers' method of operation was something new. According to the victims, the robbers not only stopped the two cars by abusing them of hitting them, but also acted as if they were injured in the accident. They had even poured red ink on their shirts to simulate injury.

When the car driver stopped the vehicle fearing trouble, the two-wheeler riders brandished a knife and escaped with the valuables. One of the victims had lost his mobile phone.

After the two cases reported on Thursday, another case of waylaying was reported on Friday in the city. The victim, police said, works for a cement company.
