Restrictions on dumping

Finding sites for dumping municipal waste has been the priority area of the civic administration these days. The Corporation, which has been facing stiff opposition from places that it selected for dumping waste, approached the Ombudsman for Local Bodies with a review petition for letting it use Cheranalloor area for waste dumping.

K.P. Radhakrishna Menon, former Ombudsman, had restricted the civic body from dumping waste there.

T.K. Chandrasekhara Das, the Ombudsman, suggested the civic authorities to come back to him after following the municipal solid waste management rules. Waste dumping without segregation of degradable and non-degradable materials cannot be permitted, he said.
