Staff Reporter
Thiruvananthapuram: The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has sought a detailed report from Emirates over the discovery of a sharp metal object amid the baggage in the overhead luggage compartment of the airline's Thriuvananthapuram-Dubai flight early on Monday. A senior official of the AAI said a report in this regard was expected from the airline within a day or two. The flight EK 523, which was scheduled to depart from the Thiruvananthapuram international airport at 4.30 a.m., was delayed following the incident. A passenger noticed the sharp metal object while keeping his hand-baggage in the overhead luggage compartment. The incident was noticed minutes before the flight was due to take-off for Dubai. The passengers were disembarked following the incident. The passengers onboard the aircraft were subjected to check and their baggage screened again. A search carried out by the airport authorities and the ground staff of Emirates did not yield any other object from the aircraft. Subsequently, the flight was cleared and it departed from the airport at 6.47 a.m. after a two-hour delay. A spokesman of the airline said the matter was under investigation.
