Opposition parties are out to make political capital over water for Rayalaseema, says Chief Minister
ANANTAPUR:
The Government is facing lots of difficulties in giving water to the parched lands of Rayalaseema, particularly to Handri-Neeva project, as some political parties and leaders are creating unnecessary hurdles, according to Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy. Speaking after unveiling a bronze statue of former MP Ananta Venkata Reddy at the Government Medical College here on Tuesday, Dr. Reddy said some leaders had gone to the extent of calling him `neeti gajadonga (water thief).' "But I will leave it to their conscience and people will decide merits and demerits of my efforts," he said.
"They are asking as to how our Government can give water to projects through Pothireddypadu head regulator by expanding its water drawl capacity," the Chief Minister said. The fact was nowhere in Telangana people had an opinion that they were being neglected. It was only the political parties and politicians who were trying to make an issue out of nothing, Dr. Reddy alleged. Water from Handri-Neeva project would be filled into tanks in the Penukonda, Madakasira and Hindupur constituencies.
