Deployment of labour being streamlined

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: The Kerala Head-load Workers' Welfare Board, which has taken up pooling of registered workers for cargo and related operations at the Kochi port, is streamlining and making labour deployment transparent and efficient, an official of the Board said here on Tuesday.

The Board had initiated steps to make sure that the port became cost-efficient and ships left without delay.

He said 2,500 workers had registered with the Board and received 6A card needed for joining the work pools. More than 200 employers too had registered with the Board. The pool system was inaugurated by the Labour Minister on December 31. The new system ensured that only those registered with the Board were deployed.
