Up against `Nimby' factor
Bangalore:
The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) attributes the delay in setting up landfills to the "Not in my backyard" syndrome Nimby in short.
The BMP has sought the guidance of N.C. Vasuki, president of the International Solid Waste Management Authority, to improve the solid waste management in the city.
"If given the freedom to design a landfill for Bangalore, I will make it look like a mini-Vidhana Soudha," Mr. Vasuki told The Hindu when he visited Bangalore last year. If his recommendations are considered, the city may have a Solid Waste Management Authority on the lines of the one in Delaware in the United States.
