dated January 18, 1957: Syrian President in Delhi

The President of Syria, Mr. Shukri al Kouwatly, was accorded a warm welcome by the President, Dr Rajendra Prasad, the Vice-President Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and the Prime Minister, Mr. Jawaharlal Nehru, when he arrived in New Delhi on January 17. Despite the inclement and cold weather, there was a large gathering at the Palam airport to greet the distinguished visitor. Talking the pressmen, the Syrian President expressed his pleasure to be in India.
