MOTHER'S TOUCH: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee with her mother after she was discharged from the nursing home in Kolkata on Wednesday.
KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress leader Mamata Banerjee, who was admitted to a nursing home here after breaking her 25-day hunger strike on December 28,was discharged on Wednesday. "I wanted to be discharged as I have been away from home for 45 days which include 20 days at the nursing home," she told mediapersons. Several supporters were there to greet her as she stepped out of the nursing home. Ms. Banerjee has been advised rest and her treatment will continue at home, according to the doctor attending on her. She has to undergo surgery to remove stones in her gall bladder and also requires treatment for a liver ailment. She had gone on a hunger-strike on December 4 in protest against the alleged forcible acquisition of farmland for the proposed car manufacturing project to be set up by Tata Motors at Singur in Hooghly district. Ms. Banerjee was keen on returning home to discuss her party's January 20 protest at Nandigram in Purbo Medinipur district against the move to acquire farmland for the setting up of a Special Economic Zone there. The Trinamool Congress observed a 12-hour bandh in Nandigram after the body of a youth was found in the area early on Thursday. He was suspected to have been murdered on Tuesday night. The party claimed that he belonged to the Trinamool Congress and was an important member of the movement against land acquisition.
