Yet another success story

MEDALS GALORE: Roopa Hanumanthrao Sangan

GULBARGA: The success of Roopa Hanumanthrao Sangan is a shining example of what one could achieve in academics through sheer determination and hard work.

Roopa, an engineering graduate, has the honour of receiving the highest number of eight gold medals in the Master of Business Administration examination conducted by Gulbarga University this year. Governor T.N. Chaturvedi will give away the gold medals to Roopa among others on Thursday at the 25th annual convocation of the university.

Belonging to a Scheduled Caste family from a tiny village of Kalgurthi in Chitapur taluk, Roopa has been a bright student from her primary school. She had her education up to high school at Subash Memorial Higher Primary School and completed her pre-university course at the Sharanabasaveshwar Science and Arts Pre University College in Gulbarga.

Roopa, who drew her inspiration from her father, Hanumanthrao Sangan, working as Superintendent in Gulbarga University, says her key to success was perseverance and hard work. After obtaining 69 per cent in the SSLC examination, she took up science in the pre-university class and passed it with 73 per cent.

Roopa's mother is an illiterate but her father is a postgraduate in political science and had been instrumental in moulding the academic career of their children. Another daughter, Deepa, has also won a gold medal for securing the highest marks in B.Com this year. She is now pursuing her Master of Social Work in the Gulbarga University. His only son, Sandeep, is doing his Bachelor of Business Management in the Doddappa Appa College of Management in Gulbarga.

Roopa, who is married to Nagsen Phule, who has completed M.Tech in Mechanical Design from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi, had spurned employment offers from reputed software companies in Bangalore after completing her BE in Computer Science in 2004.

She said that she had been richly awarded for her decision to pursue the Master of Business Administration on the main campus of Gulbarga University.

Thanking her teachers for her accomplishment, Roopa said she spent more time on reading and attended all classes without fail.
