`49.5 lakh children ready for egg in meal scheme'

BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Minister Basavaraj S. Horatti has said 49.5 lakh schoolchildren have expressed their readiness to consume eggs as part of midday meal in schools.

Quoting a survey conducted by the department, he said out of 53 lakh schoolchildren, 49.5 lakh have opted for eggs. He was speaking to presspersons along with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy here on Wednesday. The Government recently announced that it would provide eggs as part of midday meals to children.

The heads of several maths have been opposing the Government's proposal to provide eggs under the meal scheme. Mr. Horatti said he would discuss the matter with the coalition party before taking a final decision.
