CHENNAI: Momentive Performance Materials Inc., (formerly GE Advanced Materials), a specialty materials company, has decided to invest $20 million to set up a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility and a world-class technology centre for global research at Oragadam in Sriperumbudur on the outskirts of Chennai.

Momentive Performance Materials is a premier specialty material company, providing high-technology material solutions to silicones, quartz and ceramics markets.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, the President and Chief Executive Officer of the former GE Advanced Materials management team, said the new facility, which would come up on 15 acres, would manufacture a full range of silicon products in all product lines. The company had also applied to the State Government for another 15 acres, he said. The plant would go on stream in the second half of 2008 and the groundbreaking ceremony would be held during May or June this year.
