Pilgrim centres to get rail connectivity soon

  • State urged to name airport after social reformer Basavanna

    HUBLI: The Sharana Mela that concluded at Koodalasangama in Bagalkot district on Tuesday has urged the State Government to prevail upon the Union Government to provide rail connectivity to important pilgrim centres such as Koodalasangama in Bagalkot district and Basava Kalyana in Bidar district.

    A resolution in this regard was adopted at the valedictory function of the mela, Mate Mahadevi, seer of Basava Dharma Peethahas said in a release issued here on Wednesday. The mela felt that in the wake of growing number of visitors to the Koodalasangama, which is slowly emerging as pilgrim centre, there is a need for rail connectivity there.

    The mela also resolved to urge the State Government to name proposed International Airport at Devanahalli in Bangalore after social reformer Basavanna.

    A resolution to oppose the move to introduce egg under midday meal scheme was also adopted during the function. The mela also resolved to intensify agitation against it.
