Commission on assigned lands sought

Correspondent

Constitution of special land force demanded

  • Political leaders not serious on resumption of lands
  • Praja Front to lead people's movement

Kakinada: The `Praja Front' having seven parties as its constituents has demanded constitution of an autonomous commission with statutory powers to go into the status of the assigned lands all over the State and take over those enjoyed by the affluent sections and redistribute them among the poorer sections.

At a press conference here on Wednesday, Bojja Tharakam the State president of the `Praja Front' and also the president of the Republican Party of India said that the commission should be vested with the powers of entering the assigned lands and take over them. He also demanded constitution of a special land force on the lines of anti Naxalites squad to detect the assigned lands grabbed by other sections and report the same to the commission for confiscating the lands. Reiterating his demand that the 1977 Act should be implemented in toto so that the assigned lands would be restored to the beneficiaries, Tharakam has alleged that leaders of Congress, TDP and BJP were not serious about resumption of assigned lands.

Stating that the Chief Minister said that all those having assigned lands under their possession should have to voluntarily surrender them to the Government within 90 days, he said, the Praja Front would be giving another 30 days time for the lands surrender. On completion of the deadline, he said, the `Praja Front' would itself lead a people's movement to take possession of assigned land. He said there was no difference among Congress, TDP and BJP with regard to grabbing of lands.
