Peaceful hartal in Wayanad

Kalpetta: A dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the Farmers' Relief Forum in Wayanad district on Wednesday, in protest against the ``lethargy of the Government'' to resolve the farmers' crisis, was ``by and large peaceful,'' the police said.

While most shops remained closed, vehicular traffic was affected since morning with State-owned buses going off the roads, sources said. Vehicles from neighbouring Tamil Nadu and Karnataka also did not run, they said, adding no untoward incident was reported. The police had taken into custody several forum activists who organised a ``siege'' on the Kozhikode-Mysore National Highway on Tuesday. — PTI
