LOOK NO FURTHER: APCC president K. Keshava Rao greets P. Janardhan Reddy during a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in Hyderabad on Wednesday as M. Shashidhar Reddy looks on.
HYDERABAD: A specially convened Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee (TRCCC) meeting to discuss the controversy regarding the Pothireddypadu head regulator ended inconclusively on Wednesday with two party MLAs -- P. Janardhan Reddy and M. Shashidhar Reddy -- remaining defiant. At the end of the nearly four-hour-long meeting chaired by APCC president K. Keshava Rao and TRCCC convener G. Chinna Reddy, the two legislators stuck to their earlier stand that works at Pothireddypadu head regulator should be halted immediately. Talking to reporters, Mr. Janardhan Reddy demanded that an expert committee comprising retired irrigation officials hailing from three regions of the State be constituted immediately. He demanded that a weir be constructed at 800 ft only to allow flood water from Srisailam Reservoir to Pothireddypadu. Mr. Reddy objected to the diversion of floodwater at an height of 841 ft.
Warned
The two MLAs said they were not convinced by the explanation given by Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah. Mr. Janardhan Reddy said they would approach the party high command and apprise its about the developments. Dr. Keshava Rao on the other hand made it clear that the work would not stop. He also ruled out constitution of an expert committee. He said the construction of the weir was not feasible at 800 ft. He warned that the party would take a serious view of any remarks on Pothireddypadu issue if they damaged the party's image and caused embarrassment to the Government.
