`Aim is to make entire State an IT destination'

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister V. S. Achuthanandan said here on Wednesday that the draft Information Technology Policy proposes to make the entire State an IT destination.

Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) would be promoted and the State would be made a centre of FOSS to prevent monopolisation of knowledge.

Talking to presspersons after releasing the draft policy, the Chief Minister said that the Left parties had policies different from those of others regarding establishment of special economic zones and acquisition of large areas for the purpose.

Special economic zones

When reporters brought to his attention to the proposals for establishment of special economic zones under the draft industrial policy of the State released a few days ago, the Chief Minister said that he had not seen the industrial policy. He would examine whether there were conflicts with the policy he was stating now.

Later the Chief Minister released `Digital Kerala 2006,' a directory of ICT initiatives in Kerala, prepared by the staff club of Kerala IT Mission.
