Ascent has been given the job of chalking out plan

  • Biometric attendance system to be introduced
  • Toll-free complaint registration service launched

GUNTUR: Guntur Municipal Corporation has initiated measures to obtain the ISO 9001: 2000 certification for its quality management systems, that will put a stamp of excellence on its services provided to citizens. The contract for helping the municipal corporation to obtain the certification and helping it out in training its personnel to meet the standards has been given to Hyderabad-based Ascent Management Leadership Private Limited. Ascent is expected to begin its work soon.

    Quality management

Municipal Commissioner D. Rama Rao told The Hindu that ISO 9001:2000 has specified requirements for quality management system for any organisation that needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide product/services that meet customer and applicable regulatory requirements.

To meet the challenge of better attendance in office, the GMC would introduce biometric attendance system in its administrative office along with closed-circuit video cameras. He said On-line Grievance Redressal and Tracking System launched by the Centre for Good Governance was successfully functioning with more than 90 per cent redressal. There were some problems in the short messaging service (SMS) introduced two months ago to monitor the progress of redressal process.

A toll-free 103 complaint registration service was launched on November 17 and till now 1,650 complaints were received with a pendency of 189 cases in relation to engineering, water supply, taxation, town planning, sanitation and street lighting. While this has been successful in all sections, sanitation department has suffered, as its 25 grassroots-level sanitation inspectors do not have cell phones at their disposal to inform them.

Ascent team would put all these systems into place by properly advising the GMC what to do and what records to be maintained so as to reach the levels required for obtaining ISO 9001: 2000, Mr. Rama Rao said.
