GULBARGA: The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which will organise its Viraat Hindu Samavesha here on January 20 as part of the birth centenary celebrations of second sarsanchalak of RSS Golwalkar, has suffered a setback with vice-president of the reception committee Vilasvati Khuba of the Basava Kendra and Mahanta Shivacharya of Sulpul Math criticising it for using the portraits of Basaveshwara and B.R. Ambedkar in the invitation cards and banners. In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Ms. Khuba, daughter of former Vice-President B.D. Jatti, said holding a samavesha to spread the Hindutva philosophy was wrong and unacceptable to her. The concept of Hindutva of the RSS was an insult to Basaveshwara, Dr. Ambedkar and Buddha, who had tried to establish a casteless and classless society, she added. In his statement, Sri Mahant Shivacharya said the Sulpul Math followed and preached the philosophy of Basaveshwara and being a follower of Basaveshwara, it was not be possible for him to attend the samavesha. Meanwhile, opposition to the use of portraits of Dr. Ambedkar and Basaveshwara and participation of seers of Veerashaiva maths in the samaveshwa is gaining momentum here with various organisations, writers, artistes and political parties deciding to hold a convention opposing the samavesha. The convention to be organised near the statue of Basaveshwara here would be inaugurated by Murugarajendra Sharanaru of the Basava Kendra.
