Colourful start to centenary celebrations of Nutan Vidyalaya

TRADITIONAL BEGINNING: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi inaugurating the centenary celebrations of Nutan Vidyalaya Education Society in Gulbarga on Wednesday.

GULBARGA: Governor T.N. Chaturvedi on Wednesday inaugurated the centenary celebrations of Nutan Vidyalaya Education Society at Sri Satya Pramoda Theertha Auditorium here.

Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly N. Dharam Singh, Agriculture Marketing Minister Sharanabasappa Dharshanapur, Animal Husbandry Minister Revu Naik Belamgi, Higher Education Minister D.H. Shankaramurthy, Rajya Sabha Member K.B. Shanappa, and legislators from the district participated in the colourful function.

The Governor felicitated old students, including freedom fighter and president of the society V.P. Deulgoankar, Baburao Herur, Gurulingappa Patil, Venkatarao Deulgoankar, Basavannappa Kosgi, Wamanrao Deulgoankar and Chandulal Shah. Gulbarga University Syndicate members Ramesh Navale and Sunilkumar Vanti were also honoured.

The society, which made a humble beginning with seven students under the guidance of the first teacher Babuji Govind Sathe in June 2007, has grown into a major educational centre which is now running a chain of institutions.

Mahatma Gandhi visited the society here, which played an important role during the freedom struggle, in March 1927. When the society was established, the medium of instruction was Urdu. The first school established by the society was in Marathi medium. The society was the brainchild of Vithalrao Dulgoankar.
