MGR remembered

TIRUCHI: The 90th birth anniversary of former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran was observed at several places in the district on Wednesday.

In rural areas, people offered `puja' and took out `aarthis' to the portrait of the late actor. Such scenes were witnessed along the Tiruchi-Pudukkottai and Tiruchi-Namakkal Highways.

For most part of the day, songs from MGR's films kept blaring from loudspeakers. The All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam cadres also organised `annadhanam' at a few places.

In the city, party cadres offered floral tributes to the statue of the late leader. They also undertook a pledge opposing extremism.
