Clarification

In response to the article "Lakshya may get a new engine", which appeared in The Hindu on January 10, the Chief of Media Communications, HAL, writes:

"The feeling expressed that the PTAE-7 is `not vigorous enough and is also under powered' is absolutely wrong.

"The original engine used during design and development of Lakshya was Microturbo TRI-60-2 and all the aircraft performance requirements were demonstrated with TRI-60-2 engines.

"The PTAE-7 designed to replace TRI-60-2 has the same thrust at a lower fuel consumption rate. PTAE-7 has the same thrust rating of the TRI-60-2 engines, and can meet the performance of Lakshya.

"This aspect was demonstrated by a number of flights trials."
