A new grievance cell for power consumers

It will ensure time-bound redress of complaints from the Capital's citizens

  • Cell to be formally inaugurated on January 29
  • Power Department has identified 41 types of complaints

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government's Power Department has assured consumers of time-bound redress of all their complaints once its public grievance cell becomes operational this coming Saturday.

To be formally inaugurated on January 29, the cell has been set up to tackle the increasing number of complaints from consumers.

The cell, which will operate from the State Load Despatch Centre Building, will coordinate with the power distribution companies to provide relief to consumers.

"The discoms have their own grievance cells, but they do not provide time-bound relief. Our cell will have a toll-free number and consumers can register their complaints through multiple channels," said a Delhi Transco official.

The toll-free number apart, consumers can write in or email their complaints for which they will be allotted a unique grievance number for subsequent follow-up of their problem.

The Power Department has identified 41 types of complaints that can be registered with the cell, 12 of which will be directly monitored by it. "Complaints like false theft cases, meter tampering, complaints against supplementary bill for Direct Abstraction of Energy, wrong billing, electrification of blocks, disconnection of supply, restoration of power connection, complaints by residents' welfare associations and individuals, complaints related to mechanical versus electronic meters, illegal acts of discoms staff, complaints against DERC and inspection teams will be directly monitored by the Power Department," the official said.

Depending on the nature of complaints, the Department will also have provision for personal hearings.

    Retired judge

The cell, to be headed by a retired judge, would allow complainants to check the status of the action taken by the authorities concerned, the official added.
