BERHAMPUR: Students of Khallikote Autonomous College locked up the gates of the college for more than four hours on Wednesday, protesting against the alleged misbehaviour of the police towards a student leader. A group of supporters of a student leader J. Ramesh kept the gates of the college locked from 11 a.m. till 3 p.m. not letting any student of the college go out. They did not allow any outsider to enter the college premises.
Principal enters scene
Mr. Ramesh charged the police with treating him like a criminal and manhandling him on Tuesday. The students sought the intervention of the DIG, southern range, to sort out the matter. But in the afternoon, college principal L.K. Patnaik pacified the students by promising to take up the matter with the police administration.
Past record
Armed policemen were deployed around the campus. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Nitinjit Singh told newsmen that Ramesh had past police record and was released on bail a few days ago.
