BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday refused to transfer the case pertaining to the death of Deputy Inspector-General of Police Jaswinder Singh to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). He was reacting to the demand made by the family members of the officer.
`Crime branch on job'
Talking to presspersons after he met Jaswinder Singh's father Hazara Singh and wife Paramjit Kaur at the State Secretariat, Mr. Patnaik said that the Crime Branch of the State police was conducting investigation into the case and law would take its own course. "I assured them that law will take its own course and that CBI investigation is not required as of now," Mr. Patnaik said.
Widow to move court
Ms. Kaur, however, said that they would consider moving the High Court seeking justice as they had doubts that a conspiracy had been hatched to kill her husband. "Why cannot the government transfer investigation of the case? We are not satisfied with the response of the government," said the officer's father. Jaswinder Singh died on October 23 last year after being hit by bullets fired from the pistol of one of his personal security officers in Koraput district. Director-General of Police Amarananda Patnaik and Home Secretary Tarun Kanti Mishra were present when the family members of Jaswinder Singh met Mr. Patnaik in his office.
