BSNL casual staff launch stir

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Demanding regularisation of their service, over 200 casual employees of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) launched an indefinite strike here on Wednesday.

"The BSNL management is dilly-dallying the issue of absorbing 455 approved casual employees as regular staff. We are demanding immediate issue of appointment orders," Orissa Doorsanchar Asthai Mazdoor Sangh (ODAMS) general secretary Banamali Routray said here.

Raising slogans, members of ODAMS came in a procession from Rupali Square to lower PMG Square and submitted an eight-charter demand to the Chief General Manager of BSNL, Orissa Telecom Circle.

The ODAMS also demanded constitution of second committee to regularise the rest of the 934 contractual employees.

"The BSNL must stop recruiting labour on contractual basis and implement Social Security Act issued by the Union Government," ODAMS president K.C. Rout said.

Mr. Rout said all contractual labour should be identified and those who violated labour laws in the Orissa circle must be taken to task.
