VISAKHAPATNAM: Information literacy is essential, said Andhra University Vice-Chancellor L. Venugopal Reddy while inaugurating a workshop on "design and development of information literacy programmes in libraries" in AU campus on Wednesday. The workshop is being organised by the Dr. V.S. Krishna Library of Andhra University. Chief guest of the inaugural session, General Manager (HRD) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Y. Manohar said it was necessary for the libraries to adopt digital technology and information should be made available to the visitors. Libraries have a pivotal role in educating people and there was a need to encourage people to visit libraries frequently since this would help in the development and growth of the nation, he noted. Librarian of Mangalore University M.K. Bhandi said that one must have digital literacy also. A librarian must have information fluency and competency, skills and educate the users, he said. Librarian of Dr. V.S. Krishna Library C. Sasikala presided.
