CHENNAI: Describing the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government as an "object of ridicule," All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa said here on Wednesday that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi was leading the Government to "bankruptcy."

"The breakdown in law and order, increasing incidents of daylight robbery, unleashing of violence, the recent split verdict by the Madras High Court on the conduct of the Chennai Corporation polls and price rise of essential commodities have shown that the DMK Government has failed on several counts. I am sure that people will teach a fitting lesson to the minority Government led by Mr.Karunanidhi," she said, addressing a press conference at the party headquarters.

After garlanding the statue of MGR at the party office, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she had already asked the party cadres to take a pledge to work earnestly to restore the legacy of MGR and work for the victory of the AIADMK.

Asked whether there was any progress in the formation of a third front at the Centre, Ms. Jayalalithaa said: "I am not willing to say anything about it now. I feel the time has not come as yet for the formation of a non-Congress, non-BJP Government at the Centre." Asked to comment on the recent statements by MDMK general secretary Vaiko, Ms. Jayalalithaa said she would not comment on the internal affairs of another party. Mr.Vaiko has "tackled various issues capably, courageously and deftly."

On the defamation case filed by the DMK regime, Ms.Jayalalithaa said she had been constantly fighting defamation cases foisted on her by the DMK. "This is nothing new to me and I shall face yet another defamation case."

Later, addressing party workers, Ms. Jayalalithaa said very soon people would teach a fitting lesson to the DMK Government and a change was expected by the year-end. She urged them to work hard to help achieve the objective.
