State funds for mosques questioned

Legal Correspondent

Hyderabad: A Division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Wednesday admitted a writ petition wherein the action of the Government in releasing funds for construction of mosques and repair of various Wakf institutions was challenged.

G. Raghava Reddy, resident of Hyderabad, filed this writ petition in public interest alleging that the action of the State Government is in violation of the Article 27 of Constitution of India which prohibits such usage of funds for any religious purposes as declared by the Supreme Court way back in 1954.

Case adjourned

A Division Bench of the High Court adjourned a case for six weeks to facilitate the Department of Home and Department of Medical and Health to inform the court about providing security at various Government hospitals to prevent assault upon the medical staff.

Gopalakrishna Kalanidhi filed this writ petition in public interest.
