PLAYING MINORITY CARD: TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu during his visit to the old city on Wednesday, where he opened the party office and addressed a large gathering.
HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party president N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday challenged the Government to prove its sincerity by implementing three per cent reservation for minorities. Mr. Naidu, who wore `sherwani' and a cap before entering the old city to inaugurate the party office there and address a large gathering, said the Government had bungled five per cent reservation and deceived the minorities. It knew the legal hurdles, yet wanted to go ahead with the reservation. At least now it should start implementing legally possible three per cent reservations, he added. Making a strong pitch for revival of the party in the old city, Mr. Naidu said people remembered TDP Government for all-round development of Hyderabad and maintaining communal harmony.
Padayatra
Responding to party leader Lal Jan Basha's appeal, he said he would visit the old city frequently and undertake "padayatra" as he had done in the past. "I will be with you in all your struggles," he said, amid loud cheers from the large gathering of Muslims. Other leaders who spoke included Mr. Basha, Ibrahim Bin Abdullah Masquathi, Alladi P. Raj Kumar and G. Sayanna.
