Held for mobile phones theft

TAMBARAM : Police have arrested an engineering college student on charges of snatching 11 mobile phones in the past three weeks in the Nanganallur area. Three students were picked up on suspicion, and one of them was arrested. Police said the three youths were students of self-financing engineering colleges. The youths on motorcycle went after persons walking while talking on the mobile phone, snatched the phones and fled.

One of them, a student of computer science engineering, deactivated handsets and threw away the SIM cards.

The youth had also managed to sell some of the handsets. The arrested youth, 22, is reported to have confessed to the crime.
