CHENNAI: Concerned at the misuse of advocate stickers by non-advocates in the State, the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry has decided to introduce an official sticker for members enrolled with it. R.K. Chandramohan, chairman of the council, said the decision was taken in pursuance to a resolution adopted at a meeting in July 2006. The council, which is the statutory body empowered to handle welfare as well as disciplinary issues concerning advocates, will issue official stickers after verifying the bonafide of applicants who shall submit the proof of identity and enrolment certificate along with the registration certificates of their vehicles. Mr. Chandramohan clarified that the registration certificate should be in the name of either the advocate concerned or his/her spouse only. The last date for submission of application was January 31, he said, adding that once the process was completed, the council would ask the police department to initiate appropriate action against persons found misusing advocate stickers. He also called upon the non-advocates to desist from using the official stickers. While a pair of stickers for cars would cost Rs. 50, the rate for two-wheelers Rs. 25, the chairman said.
