HYDERABAD: The South Central Railway has introduced 19 more MMTS services with effect from Thursday to make more services available during peak hours with better frequency and running time to meet the requirement of office goers and commuters. Disclosing this to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Chief Operations Manager J.N. Jagannath said that the increase took the existing 65 services to 84 in the Hyderabad-Lingampalli-Hyderabad, Falaknuma-Lingampalli-Falaknuma, Secunderabad-Falaknuma-Secunderabad and Hyderabad-Falaknuma-Hyderabad MMTS routes. The MMTS services would be operated even during non-peak hours except Sundays to address the traffic problem, he said.
Phase II
Encouraged with the patronage for MMTS phase I, proposals for the Phase II at a cost of Rs.385 crores, with two-thirds share coming from the State Government were submitted to the Railway Ministry for MMTS services from Bhongir to Secunderabad, Secunderabad to Manoharabad and one section from Falaknuma to Shamshabad. The Tellapur - Patancheru line would also be revived, he said. The patronage for the Phase I since its inception three years ago increased from about four lakhs a month to 16 lakhs a month now with a growth of 34 to 40 per cent a year. With increased services, frequency would now be between 10 minutes to 20 minutes. Besides, the running time from Lingampally to Falaknuma was reduced by 14 minutes and Secunderabad to Lingampally by 10 minutes. The services were also scheduled to provide better connectivity to the main line express trains originating from Secunderabad, Hyderabad and Kacheguda and booking counters for MMTS services were opened at platform No.5 and 6 of Secunderabad station. However Mr.Jagannath said that better bus connectivity to Hi-Tech MMTS station and other stations, finalisation of combined bus-cum-train ticket, would further increase patronage and pave way for early laying of phase II works.
