HYDERABAD: Vivek Vardhini Education Society, established in 1907 and with the distinction of having started the first primary school for girls and first private college to be affiliated to Osmania University, is celebrating 100 years of its existence in twin cities. To launch and be a part of the yearlong centenary celebrations, President A.P.J Abdul Kalam will visit Vivek Vardhini Campus on January 20 (Saturday). The President will also launch a new distance education programme during his visit. Speaking to mediapersons here on Wednesday, Vivek Vardhini Society president Sudhir Naik said that a host of activities including lectures, national-level seminars, musical concerts and alumni day have been lined for the celebrations. The society boasts of many firsts to its credit including first Marathi primary school, private evening college affiliated to Osmania University, private teachers training college and first to offer professional courses in music, tailoring, arts and AMIE. Mahatma Gandhi and stalwarts like Annie Besant, Sir C.V. Raman, Durga Bai Deshmukh had at one time or the other visited the Vivek Vardhini campus.
